About Us

Andy and I met on a blind date in Dec. 2005. One of my 7th grade students was his neice, and she set us up. Go figure. We saw each other every day after that! We were engaged by June and married in September of 2006. In January, 2008, we welcomed little Ethan into our home, and in August, 2010, little Addison arrived.

Andy is a diesel mechanic at Kennecott. I taught middle school science for ten years, and am now an evidence-based learning specialist for a school district.

Grandma & Grandpa Trane

Grandma and Grandpa are a crack up with Ethan. They constantly "fight" to have him. "It's my turn, you've had him for 10 minutes" is a phrase heard quite often. Grandma and Grandpa sure do love their Grandson, and we sure love them!

Here is Grandma teaching Ethan Patty Cakes! Seems as though he's paying more attention to Grandpa who was pulling funny faces though! Here is Grandpa reading Ethan a story about the itsy bitsy spider!

Tiny Feet

I love baby feet! I don't know what it is about them, but they are just too adorable! Amazing what his little feet will help him do in this life!

Our Funny Guy!

Ethan keeps us laughing on a regular basis, so here are some videos of our little one!

Playtime Fun!

Ethan loves to sit on the floor and play with these new blocks that daddy bought for him! He is a little destroyer of the blocks. He loves for us to build something with them, and then knock it down! What a crack up!

Army Crawling - Slowly

So, here is a clip of the army crawl. Man, it looks like he uses every ounce of energy he has to get going. I'm sure tht he'll be crawling quickly all over the place soon!

Passed the Test!

I have to take a test at a testing center each semester for my master's degree. If you know me at all, you know that I don't like to study, so I've BS'd my way through my first two tests. This third one, was a beast! So, I took it the first time and failed. Yikes! So, I studied my butt off, and went to take it again. I held my breathe all weekend long until I got my score back. 79% Now, I know what you're thinking . . that's not a good test score, but I only needed 75% to pass, so I'll take it and be VERY happy that I even passed! Yippee!!!!

Ethan & Norma

Ethan is really fascinated with Norma, and sometimes, she's even fascinated by him. She comes and gives him a good sniff every now and then, and she'll even let him yank on her ears or smack her for a little bit. When she's had enough, she gets up and leaves. I hate to tell her that pretty soon Ethan will be crawling after her wherever she goes! She'll just LOVE that!

walking and crawling!

A few days ago we took this fun little video of Ethan walking. He loves to hold your hands and go all over the house! It's adorable. The problem is that he knows exactly what he wants to get, and guess where he wants to go? The dog door! Big problem!

So, I'm thinking we're okay until he starts crawling! Well, guess what happened today? Our little guy started army crawling! I missed it, but Grandma filled me in on the fact that he scooted all over the place today! Man, he's growing and learning so fast! We haven't baby proofed yet, thinking this day wouldn't creep up on us quite so fast, but I guess we'll do a whirl wind baby proofing, and hope all is well! Video of scooting to come!

Happy Anniversary!

A lot has happened since I met Andy almost three years ago. Met, dated, fell in love, got married, bought a house, had a baby, and spent two wonderful years together as husband and wife! How life changes in the blink of an eye.

The night before my first date with Andy, I'd been out on yet another horrible date. I came home, walked in the door, and told my mom I wasn't dating any more for a LONG time. I even told her I was going to call and cancel my blind date with Andy. She, thank goodness, told me that it was rude to cancel since we already had plans and that all I had to do was make it through one more date, and then I could take a long needed break from dating.

Boy, am I evern glad that she talked me into keeping my date with Andy. We went to the buffett at Little America hotel for dinner, went to temple square to see the lights, and then watched Christmas Vacation (my all time favorite movie!). We had so much fun. I came home that night, and my mom said "how'd it go?" I told her I was going to marry him. She told me I was crazy, but I just knew he was the one. It's funny how all the married people just tell you that "you'll know" when you've found the right person. I always wondered what they meant, but now having had that experience, I too just tell people . .. "you'll know." It's a feeling that is hard to describe.

Anyway, I couldn't be happier! I found my perfect man, I have a great home in a wonderful neighborhood, and we have the cutest son ever! Okay, so my opinions may be a little biased, but I am so happy with how things have turned out. God really does know what's best for us, and when it will be best for us!

Here are a few pictures of Andy and I on our wedding day!

Happy Anniversary Babe! I love you!

Holy Cow!

Last night, Ethan was playing in the living room with me, and he pulled out the drawer on the coffee table, grabbed on, and pulled himself up! I couldn't believe my eyes. I didn't think he'd be able to do that quite yet.

He's not anywhere close to crawling yet, but he likes to hold your hands and walk around. Now that he's even pulling himself up, I'm beginning to think that he's going to skip the entire crawling scene and just start walking. Who knows!

You Gotta See This & Read That!

If you haven't yet seen this movie . . . you better get to the store! I haven't laughed so hard in a movie since Christmas Vacation and Tommy Boy! I absolutely thought it was hilareous. It does have some "naughty" parts, but man, it keeps you laughing from pretty much minute one! My favorite part is when she's in the bathroom taking her dear sweet time, and he's got to go. If you've seen it, you know what I mean! :)
I also just started reading a book called Stargirl. The counseling center at our school used some of their funds to purchase the book for each of our 1200 students, and all 50+ of our teachers. We are all reading it together, and I have to say that it is probably one of the cutest books that I've ever read. It's a very short, easy read, and it's very entertaining. Stargirl is a quirky high school student who cares more about everyone else than she does about herself. It really makes you reflect on the kind of person you are, and how simple things that you do really can make a big impact on others.

Yard Sale Daze

I'm not sure who had the genius idea of a three day yard sale, but somehow we all bought into it, and it really did happen! So, Andy, all 4 of his brothers, and his parents all had out items at our multi-family, three day yard sale! Holy cow was it ever crazy! Thursday and Friday we sold quite a bit, and we were happy to be counting our dough. Then saturday rolled around, and we had a lot check things out, but not much buying was happening. Plus, little Ethan came down with a fever, so I had to run him over to urgent care. Sure enough, he has an ear infection just like mom. What a weekend! We're all dazed and confused!

Labor Day BBQ

Well, since my man is a Union man, we spent Labor Day at the Annual Labor Day BBQ in magna. Other than the weather, it was really quite fun. Ethan's got quite a bit of his dad in him. Check out this shot of him already driving!

Crazy Kid!

Two years ago, I taught a student named Chris. Last year, he occasionally said hi to me in the hall ways, but this year, I wonder if he's stalking me. He comes by my classroom every single day on his way to lunch. Now, you must know, that my school is set up with a 7th grade wing, an 8th grade wing, and a 9th grade wing. I teach in the 7th grade wing, and he is a 9th grader, so he goes CLEAR out of his way to swing by and see me each day. I have students at this time since we have two lunches at our school. So, the first few times he just walked into class and yelled hi Mrs. Allen, so I told the girl who sits by the door to make sure it's shut and locked when the bell rings for 2nd lunch. So, now he comes to the door, tries to open it, and then comes back to the window and hits the window until I wave to him. Then he goes on his merry way to lunch. The most random part of this story is that he was a HORRIBLE student in my class. He was in trouble more than any other student that I've ever taught. I can't figure it out. The only thing I can think of is that he's trying to make up for his poor behavior. Who knows.

Just Been Tagged

My cousin Candice just tagged me. . . I am supposed to tell you about some of my flaws so here you go....
1. Post these rules.
2. Tell about 5 unspectacular quirks of yours.
3. Tag 5 fellow bloggers by linking them.

1. I hate being told what to do, and lots of times I do the exact opposite just to be a pain!
2. I procrastinate big time! Example . . . this semester started in June, and I waited until August to even get started!
3. I hate taking out the garbage, so lots of times I leave it until it's overflowing, thinking someone else will do it. Hopefully this can be Ethan's job when he grows up.
4. I have a junk drawer! It is full of all sorts of random things that are left out, and I don't want to put them away, so I just throw them in the junk drawer.
5. I clean my ears out way too often. This one is kind of yucky, but sometimes, I clean them so much they get really dry, and even bleed. I think it's just some weird OCD that I have . . . I don't really claim it as a habit, I think of it as an illness that I can't control. :)

I tag Summer V., Heather A., Andy A., Hollie P., and Mailyn.

Just Like Mom!

Ethan loves to hit anything he can get his hands on. Especially things that make noise. Needless to say, he loves to hit the piano keys, because they make A LOT of noise! Listen to our little pianist!
